Fraternities encouraged to submit essays of projects to Chancellor Cao

A meeting between the USC, fifteen fraternity representatives, and President Roman was held last October 15 at the Quezon Hall to clarify some concerns on the memorandum issued by
President Roman weeks ago regarding her request to fraternities to submit essays justifying their existence in the University. As agreed upon by all frat reps who attended the meeting last week called by the USC (through USC STRAW Committee), no UP Diliman frat
submitted essay until the consultation with President Roman took place. This was seen as a threat to fraternties and a sweeping generalization.

After clarifying matters with President Roman (also present during the meeting were Chancellor Cao, VC Enriquez and DLO Head Atty. Raval), fraternities are strongly encouraged to submit their respective essays/ writeup/ report to Chancellor Cao highlighting their projects/contribution for the past years of existence. frats' existence. Fraternity reps who were present during the meeting all agreed to submit their essays.

The USC (through the STRAW committee) shall draft a unity statement with fraternities regarding the significant contribution of fraternities, sororities, organizations in the history of the student movement in the Univeristy.

We also clinched the support and unity of the UP admin on our campaign against the existing culture of frat violence. We will also come up with activities with frats come second semester.
We also confirmed that there is NO frat ban being entertained by UP Admin. No sanction will be imposed by the UP admin should frats opt not to submit essays. But we strongly encourage frats to comply with the request. These essays will ONLY serve as support to our claim that fraternities also have significant contribution to the society, according to President Roman. As we enter the centennial of our University, we should uphold our ideals as iskolar ng bayan.
