DESO(na)LATION: USC on GMA's State of the Nation Address 2007


The University Student Council held a series of activities from July 19-22 in preparation for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's State of the Nation Address last July 23, 2007. With the theme DESO(na)LATION: The Crisis of UP under Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the activities
seek to highlight the crisis of the destruction of the very essence of the University of the Philippines, being the University of the People and enjoin students to do their share as real agents of social change.

Do not Enter: Private Education in the Neo-liberal Age
Venue: C.M. Recto Hall
Date: July 20, 1:00- 4:00pm
A forum together with the Center for Nationalist Studies that tackled the Ayala Science and Technology Parks and the different privatization schemes in the University. The speakers were Mr. Peter Chua, Prof. Sarah Raymundo, and Prof. Lani Abad.

Bahay-Bahayan
Venue: Pook Amorsolo
Date: July 21, 8:00am- 12nn
This activity involved basic masses integration within the UP community and informed the students regarding the issue of demolition inside the University.


Multi-sectoral Assembly
Venue: Vinzons Rooftop
Date: July 21, 2:00pm

Cultural Night
Venue: Vinzons Hall
Date: July 22, 6:00 pm
Cultural Night and Vigil with the farmers from Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon. The activity also involved discussions regarding the issues faced by the farmers.


July 23 State of the Nation Address Mobilization


The series of activities was spearheaded by Students Right and Welfare Committee Head and Councilor Ipay Bolibol.
